House thoughts
Hey babe. I think I’ve figured out what kind of house we should buy someday, if we can ever afford it.
I want a conversation pit. Real hardwood and big windows that let in a lot of natural light. A sauna for you and a soaking tub for me.
When you walk out the back door, you’ll find a huge patio bordered by string lights, in the middle of a meadow full of local flora, surrounded by a vast forest. You can tell that there’s not another person around for miles.
Or maybe you walk out the front door, straight onto a bustling city sidewalk. Maybe you want to grab lunch at the Vietnamese place down the block, or walk a bit further to pick up your holds at the library or check out the farmer’s market. It’s only a few blocks to the train if you ever want to spend the day at the art museum or go to the opera.
Nobody can really explain why when you’re standing in front of the house, or looking out the windows in the front half of it, it’s obviously on an ordinary city block, not taking up any more room than the other houses around it. You can hear snippets of conversations from people passing by and a jazz quartet practicing next door.
And yet, when you’re behind the house, or looking out the back windows, all that’s visible are the meadow and a seemingly unending forest. All you can hear are birds and frogs singing and a stream flowing in the distance.
But it’s perfect. It’s exactly what we need.
So let me know if you see anything like that on Zillow, I guess.
